    Featured Artist: Rebecca

Rebecca's work focuses on the potters wheel as she explores functional pottery.  These two pieces (above) are both thrown and altered, a technique of changing the form after it is thrown on the wheel, yet while the clay is still plastic.  Notice the subtle change in the lip of each piece as it was formed into a softly rounded square.  Rebecca also experiments with a variety of clay bodies and explores how glazes react to each type of clay.  A dark brown iron bearing clay was used for these two pieces, with a Cone 6 white matte glaze.  The iron in the clay body reacted with the stark white glaze.  The speckled surface and color changes of the white glaze is a result of the reaction between clay body and glaze,  Rebecca's intense explorations and dedication to her craft has yielded many beautiful works of art such as the two displayed here.
